The Michigan Wolverines are almost ready to begin a new era, as Kyle Whittingham’s first game leading the team is less than three weeks away. In today’s era of college football, any time a new coach is coming in, there are sure to be a lot of transfers on the roster. Michigan fans are particularly excited about a couple of transfers that will play in the secondary, and one of them is safety Chris Bracy.

The story so far

Bracy has spent time with three different teams in his college career. But before college, he attended St. Paul’s Episcopal High School in Mobile, Alabama, and was a three-star recruit in the 2023 class.

His first stop out of high school was UAB. Bracy earned some solid playing time during his true freshman season with the Blazers, which was extremely beneficial toward his growth. He appeared in 11 games that season, totaling 17 tackles and one interception.

Unfortunately for Bracy, a foot injury cut his sophomore season short after just four games. He had earned a starting role and had already racked up 18 tackles and two passes defended before having to sit out the rest of the season.

Bracy then opted to transfer to Memphis. He put up some huge numbers last year, finishing with 81 total tackles, nine passes defended, one forced fumble and one interception. That allowed him to enter the portal once more and eventually sign with Michigan.

Outlook for 2026

Bracy is highly expected to be a starter this year alongside Rod Moore. While the competition will certainly be more difficult in the Big Ten, Bracy has shown he can compete at a high level. His play at Memphis last season was especially impressive, and if he can put up similar numbers this year, that would be huge for this Michigan defense.

Because of guys like Bracy, this secondary is absolutely loaded heading into the 2026 season. The expected starters are all upperclassmen who have a ton of starting experience, and they have all already shown they can be elite players at this level. If they can all stay healthy, this might be the best part of Michigan’s game.

The portal is a major aspect of college sports right now, and teams that aren’t utilizing it as much are falling behind. Fortunately for the Wolverines, they have a lot of good transfer talent to be excited about heading into this season, with Bracy being one of the guys to be most excited for.
