The New Orleans Saints are in the middle of training camp and preparing for their preseason opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars. That isn't stopping the scouting department from working on the 2027 NFL Draft. New Orleans has been gathering information recently on prospects from a few schools in a potentially loaded draft class.
The Saints have recently been represented at three college football programs. Sacramento State publicly thanked New Orleans and the Tennessee Titans for sending scouts to watch the Hornets in person. New Orleans also returned to a familiar stop; A Saints representative was also at North Dakota State's fall camp, according to WDAY's Dom Izzo. That trip comes a few months after the Saints selected former Bison wide receiver Bryce Lance at pick No. 136 overall in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Lance became the latest player from a program that has consistently produced NFL talent despite spending most of its history in the FCS.
New Orleans also had a scout at TCU practice alongside representatives from the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets, according to Steven Johnson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The Horned Frogs were holding a lighter practice before a scheduled scrimmage.
None of those visits necessarily indicate that the Saints have identified a specific prospect as a future target. College scouting departments routinely begin their work long before draft season, evaluating and identifying players who could fly under the radar next spring.
