Saints urged to make questionable roster move with 497-yard third-round RB originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The New Orleans Saints made it their mission this offseason to surround Tyler Shough with as much offensive talent as possible. They did a good job, adding offensive line help and Travis Etienne Jr. at running back. Etienne and Alvin Kamara form an interesting RB tandem, but it's a good duo for Shough and the Saints' offense. But after those two, the Saints have a bit of a crowded backfield to sort out. Amid this crowded backfield, the Saints were urged by Moe Moton of Bleacher Report to cut ties with 497-yard third-round pick Kendre Miller. While maybe a bit questionable, there is reason why this Miller release would make sense. Saints urged to release Kendre Miller amid crowded RB room "Remember, the Saints' current coaching staff inherited Miller from the previous regime," Moton writes. "Last year, New Orleans drafted Neal in the sixth round. So it wouldn't be a surprise if he beats out Miller for the No. 3 running back spot." The Saints might normally be eyeing Miller as someone who could contribute to the offense in 2026. But with Etienne as the No. 1 back after spending big money on him, and Kamara the clear No. 2 after a reworked deal, the RB workload is already set. Any other back getting work for the Saints would either be in case of an injury or in blowouts, or simply as a change-of-pace back, depending on the situation. The No. 3 RB won't see much work at all for the Saints. MORE: Why Shedeur Sanders vs. Deshaun Watson QB competition is taking so long for Browns Last year, Miller seemed like an important player, but an injury cut his season short. Thanks to Devin Neal, Audric Estime, and even Ty Chandler, along with undrafted rookie CJ Donaldson, it's going to be hard for Miller to secure a roster spot. Besides, it might be better for Miller to get cut by the Saints, as he could go to a team where he's more likely to get the ball. Ideally, the Saints trade him away, as even a late-round pick would be better than losing him for nothing in a release. But, despite being a questionable move at first glance, seeing the Saints release Miller ahead of the 2026 NFL season would not be a surprising move at all. More NFL news:
