The New Orleans Saints vs. Jacksonville Jaguars game was a very interesting one to watch. The first half was exciting, and even with some of the struggles that were present, the Saints gave fans plenty of what they wanted to see. It was unfortunate that as the team got deeper into its reserves, the Saints were unable to hold the lead and finish the game.
Even though the Saints lost, there were still several players who showed up and showed out.
Zach Wilson was not thought to be in a battle for the backup quarterback job, but after this game, he certainly made his case. Wilson entered midway through the second quarter and finished 11-of-16 for 145 yards, one touchdown, a quarterback rating of 118.0, and a PFF grade of 81.2.
Wilson looked really good and efficient. He seemed in control and comfortable with the entire offense while he was in the game. But in my opinion, he was not the MVP of this game.
Let’s talk about the primary target for the quarterbacks in the first half: Bub Means.
Means finished the game with four receptions for 77 yards and averaged 4.8 yards after the catch. He also finished with the highest PFF grade among Saints receivers, earning an 81.0 overall offensive grade. Means was just a big toe away from having a touchdown on a deep throw from Zach Wilson.
It was good to see Means play meaningful minutes while healthy.
On the defensive side of the ball, Jaylan Ford was a player who stood out throughout his time on the field Saturday. Ford made an interception in the red zone on Jacksonville’s first offensive possession of the game, ruining an opportunity for the Jaguars to put points on the board after the Saints scored on their opening drive. This was a vital play that gave early momentum to a very excited Superdome crowd.
But my overall game MVP is Jayden Price.
Price finished the game with the highest defensive grade on PFF at 95.3, while his coverage grade was nearly as impressive at 94.6. Price finished with one tackle, one assist, and a quarterback hurry.
He was also targeted three times in coverage and did not allow a single reception. He recorded a pass breakup and an interception as well. Price was locked in defensively and made the most of his opportunity this past Saturday.
It will be interesting to see how not only Price, but also the other players mentioned, follow up their strong performances.
Who is your game MVP, and do you think Price will be able to follow this great performance with another one?
