Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was involved in a freak accident during Wednesday night’s victory over the Kansas City Royals.
The Dodgers have extended their record to 73-48, but there were real concerns on Wednesday surrounding Freeman’s wellbeing after his eighth inning incident.
In an attempt to catch a fly ball, Freeman – with his eyes only on the foul ball – edged closer and closer to the steps down to the dugout.
Freeman ultimately ended up falling down into the dugout as players from both teams ran to his aid.
The 36-year-old emerged from the Royals’ dugout, but it was apparent that he had sustained some pain during his fall.

Players from both teams were clearly shocked by the incident as Carter Jensen could be seen with his hands on his head.
Fortunately, Freeman was able to walk away from the fall, which was dubbed the ‘scariest moment of the year’, but the first baseman has admitted he is walking away slightly sore.
“I didn’t hit my head, so that was the key part there. I am sore. I mean I fell. I’m in good spirits,” he told the media after the game.
Freeman also suggested he was ‘hopeful’ of playing in Thursday’s series-opener against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Freeman has hit 15 home runs this season as he chases his season average of 24 in a Dodgers uniform.
Manager David Roberts made it very clear that he was all too aware the incident could have led to a much more serious outcome.
“I think that we really dodged the bullet,” said Roberts.
Freeman did manage to finish the inning, but he required a pinch-hitter as he was required up at the batter’s box first in the bottom of the eighth.
