Scottie Scheffler looked much like his old self on day two of the FedEx St. Jude Championship on Friday.
Scheffler posted a special round of 61 at TPC Southwind and he leads by three heading into the weekend.
The world number one has experienced a difficult season on the PGA Tour in 2026.
Scottie Scheffler has been the dominant player in all of the key statistical categories and he is sitting at the top of the FedEx Cup points list.
He has 11 top-5 finishes to his name in 17 starts including five runner-ups!

However, Scheffler definitely hasn’t been at his best throughout the entire season.
After his second round at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, though, it seems like the world number one golfer could be very close to his best form.
Scheffler’s score of 61 at the FedEx St. Jude on Friday was truly special to watch, and he spoke about just how rare his start was after finishing his round.
Scottie Scheffler made ‘one of the best starts’ of his career at the FedEx St. Jude
He made five birdies in a row to begin his second round at TPC Southwind before parring the sixth and making a birdie on the seventh.
Scheffler spoke to reporters after he finished his second round in Memphis on Friday evening.
The world number one was asked whether he feels like he was rewarded on day two for the patience he showed on day one.
“It’s like you always want to try to get off to a good start. I was able to do that today,“ the 30-year-old said.

“Really just a dream start. Probably one of the best starts I’ve had on TOUR, to be honest with you. I couldn’t tell you a time where I’ve been lower early in the round.
“Yeah, just a good start and was able to continue to strike the ball and execute. Yesterday was a day in which I felt like I played better than my score, but also early in the round I was out of the fairway a lot.
“So it could have been a day in which my score could have definitely been worse, and it definitely could have been a lot better. But today was a day in which I felt I got a lot out of the round.“
Scottie Scheffler looks like he’s back to his best
Scheffler has only one win to his name on the PGA Tour so far in 2026.
He will obviously be desperate for that all to change this week at TPC Southwind.
Scottie Scheffler was in the zone on day two of the FedEx St Jude. Championship on Friday, and if he plays anything like that over the weekend, there will only be one winner.
Scheffler ranked 1st in strokes gained putting and strokes gained approach in Memphis on Friday.
That’s the first time he has ever led in both categories since he’s been out on the PGA Tour.
It may be too soon to say that Scheffler is back to his absolute best, but his performance at the FedEx St. Jude so far has certainly been hugely encouraging.
