The Scottish Football Association has publicly withdrawn its support for Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

It comes after Infantino shelved controversial plans to sell off stakes in the World Cup and other Fifa competitions last month.

Infantino has lost the support of three confederations – Uefa, Comnebol and the Asian Football Confederation – but some nations have also split from their region.

The SFA’s statement on Infantino comes after English FA, Welsh FA and Football Association of Ireland backed Uefa’s stance and withdrew support.

The SFA’s chief executive Ian Maxwell told the BBC that the governing body’s position has “been clear” since Uefa’s collective statement.

“We have aligned ourselves with the Uefa position and 55 nations are stronger than one voice.

“Their statement since then has talked about a lack of confidence in the Fifa leadership and the Scottish FA agree completely with that decision.

“The SFA will not be voting for Gianni Infantino come the re-election in early 2027.”

It was announced last week that Uefa, Concacaf and the AFC have begun preliminary discussions about the possibility of organising competitions among themselves if they boycott Fifa events.

Uefa accused Fifa of breaking trust through “deception” and said Infantino has so far failed to acknowledge his proposal was fundamentally wrong.

But a number of football associations, including Argentina, Morocco and Mexico, have backed Infantino while the African Football Confederation has done so unanimously.
