Sean McVay has made up his mind on who will get the start at quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday against the Kansas City Chiefs. After previously saying he didn’t know whether Stetson Bennett would play in the preseason, he announced after practice Thursday that Bennett will start against the Chiefs. Ty Simpson will also play, entering the game later on as a backup. The Rams are still evaluating the QB2 position behind Matthew Stafford, so they want to get a look at both signal callers in a game setting. Additionally, offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase will call the plays, with McVay still operating as the head coach. He typically gives his assistants a chance to call plays in the preseason, so it’s Scheelhaase’s turn this week.

Jimmy Garoppolo and Stafford were both held out of these exhibition games the last two seasons, but Bennett won't be getting the same veteran treatment as he competes with Simpson for the QB2 spot. This will be an important game for Bennett, given that his roster spot isn't safe like Simpson's is. If Bennett struggles and Simpson shines, it could flip the race at backup quarterback and potentially put Bennett in danger of being cut. As of now, he's in the lead for that job, but things could change in the preseason. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: Sean McVay announces Rams' plan at QB for preseason game vs. Chiefs
