Cox/Getty Images) | Getty Images We saw Davis Webb call plays for one preseason game last season; however, Friday was our first real look at the Davis Webb offense in 2026, and well, it went pretty damn well. The Broncos had a 24-0 lead at halftime, and we saw the offense move the ball up and down the field against the Falcons’ starting defense with ease. Keep in mind, they did this without starting quarterback Bo Nix, star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, leading rusher JK Dobbins, and starting center Luke Wattenberg. So, it was a fairly impressive first showing by the Broncos offense and Davis Webb.

After the game, Broncos head coach Sean Payton met with the media and was asked how he thought the offense operated vs. the Falcons. Payton told reporters, “It was smooth,” and that offensive coordinator and play caller Davis Webb was “on point”. He also credited the quarterbacks for doing a good job of getting out of the huddle quickly.
“It was smooth. I think maybe there was a play or two; we got down to three seconds, but the subs were good, Davis [Webb] was on point. I thought the ‘Q’s’ [quarterbacks] did a good job getting out of the huddle.”
All things considered, it was a pretty perfect night for Webb and the Broncos offense. They were without multiple key members of their offense, but still operated smoothly and looked Week 1 ready in the preseason opener. Stidham moved the ball down the field with chunk plays to wide receivers Pat Bryant and Courtland Sutton before letting fullback Adam Prentice pound it in from the one-yard line. We also saw an emphasis on the run game. They had 162 yards rushing on the night, and second-year back RJ Harvey and impressive-looking rookie Jonah Coleman led the way. Harvey got the start and showed some toughness and powerful running between the tackles. Coleman would come in next and showed good burst, power, vision, and contact balance and why coaches have been impressed with the talented rookie back so far. Harvey would finish the night with 5 carries for 16 yards, while Coleman had 4 carries for 24 yards. Payton was asked about his thoughts on Coleman and told reporters that they have been seeing this throughout camp. He liked Coleman’s balance coming out of tackles and thought the running back group overall had a good night.
“Just what we’ve been seeing, right? And then you see enough of it, and you’re like, all right. Look, he’s had a good camp, and I liked his balance coming out of some of the tackles. I thought overall, the group had a good night.”
Payton, Webb, and the Broncos offensive staff put an emphasis on improving the run game this offseason, and so far, the results have been there. Harvey showed some tough running, but his game will mostly be as a pass catcher while Coleman flashed starter potential. I believe he is going to have a big part in the Broncos’ run game and pair with veteran JK Dobbins as the Broncos’ main ball carriers this season. It was just Week 1 of the preseason, but so far, the Davis Webb experience is off to a hot start.
