New York Giants rookie wide receiver Malachi Fields recorded his first career touchdown Saturday in the team’s preseason opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
After missing a few plays following a crushing hit, quarterback Jaxson Dart returned to the field and was promptly flushed from the pocket. The second-year signal-caller avoided defenders, scrambled left, and unleashed a perfect pass toward the end zone.
Fields went up and high-pointed the ball over a Vikings defender for the 15-yard score.

The touchdown came on Dart’s first snap back after an evaluation in the medical tent. Vikings safety Jay Ward flattened the quarterback on the final play of the first quarter when a blitz went unblocked. Veteran Jameis Winston stepped in briefly before Dart re-entered.
The score gave the Giants a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter at MetLife Stadium.
Fields, the 6-foot-4 third-round pick out of Notre Dame, showcased the contested-catch ability that made him an attractive draft target for New York.
The team’s official account captured the moment simply: Fields went up and got it.
