India and Sri Lanka begin a two-match Test series on August 15, 2026, with the opening game scheduled at the Galle International Cricket Stadium. The series forms part of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship cycle, and both sides will be eager to make a strong start.

The Galle pitch is widely expected to assist spin from early on, making the battle between the two teams' slow bowlers a central talking point. India have named Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar and Saransh Jain as their spin options, while Sri Lanka can call upon Prabath Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis and Keshara Nuwantha.

Here are 3 bowlers to watch out for in SL vs IND 2026, 1st Test:

1. Ravindra Jadeja (India)

Ravindra Jadeja remains one of India's most accomplished Test cricketers ever, and he is expected to lead India's spin attack in Galle alongside Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar.

In seven Tests against Sri Lanka, he has scored 326 runs at an average of 65.20, with his highest Test score of an unbeaten 175 coming against them in 2022. With the ball, he has claimed 33 wickets against Sri Lanka at an average of 23.73.

On India's previous tour of Sri Lanka, Jadeja featured in two of the three Tests and took 13 wickets at an average of 28.76 while also contributing 85 runs with the bat. His standout performance came in the second Test, where he combined for 7 wickets across the match, including 5 in the second innings, and hit an unbeaten 70 as India won by an innings and 53 runs.

2. Prabath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka)

Prabath Jayasuriya is Sri Lanka's premier left-arm spinner and the most potent threat on home soil. In 23 Tests, he has taken 125 wickets, and 81 of those have come from just 11 Tests at Galle, making him one of the most destructive bowlers at that venue in recent history.

Those 81 wickets at Galle place Jayasuriya third on the all-time list of Test wicket-takers at the ground, behind only Muttiah Muralitharan, who took 111, and Rangana Herath, who took 102. Sri Lanka recorded a 2-0 series win over New Zealand in 2024, and Jayasuriya was central to that success with his wicket-taking ability at Galle.

3. Kuldeep Yadav (India)

Kuldeep Yadav is India's frontline wrist-spinner and adds a different dimension to the attack with his left-arm chinaman bowling. He is one of three players in the current squad, along with KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who toured Sri Lanka previously, giving him valuable experience of local conditions.

Kuldeep's ability to extract turn and deceive batters in the air makes him a key weapon for India, particularly on a Galle surface that traditionally offers assistance to slow bowlers. His inclusion alongside Jadeja gives India a potent two-pronged spin combination heading into the first Test on August 15, 2026.
