Gary Neville’s Stick to Football podcast has become one of the most popular shows in the sport over the last couple of years and it is now joining the Disney family.
It emerged on Thursday that Disney+ have secured the rights to broadcast The Overlap in what is being described as ‘a multimillion-pound deal’.
With the 2026/27 Premier League campaign getting underway soon, it has been confirmed that Disney+ will broadcast 40 episodes of Stick to Football. They will also show 50 episodes of Stick to United, which is a new show that will be hosted by Wayne Rooney and content creator Mark Goldbridge.
Fans question Disney’s deal with Gary Neville’s The Overlap
While the deal is probably good news for Neville and the rest of the team, it has been garnering a mixed reaction online.
One fan claimed: “Proves the Americans know nothing about football.”
Another fan took to X/Twitter to write: “Hmmm seems a weird deal. Have they bought the whole company…”
A third fan called it ‘nuts’, stating: “This is nuts. Punditry as product in itself. And not even great punditry!”
“Sad. The ‘main stream/legacy media’ were always highly knowledgeable about the ‘big 6’ or their own club, but mostly clueless about everyone else. I turned to the smaller fancasts instead. Now they’re selling out to corporate, and pay-walling,” commented another.
A fifth then claimed that the new deal means: “Both shows will be ruined.”
The majority of Stick to United and Stick to Football will still be available to view for free on YouTube in the new season.
However, six episodes of Stick to Football will be released on Disney+ for a limited time first, before eventually airing on YouTube.
Given that this is the case, it is hard to see why fans would be more inclined to watch on the streaming platform instead of just sticking to YouTube as normal.
But as The Guardian mentions, Disney+ have made this deal after Netflix secured the rights to show Gary Lineker’s The Rest Is Football podcast. The report itself describes it as ‘a battle between two of the world’s biggest streaming platforms’.
