Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has ignited nationwide conversation over the past several weeks after she spoke out against transgender women competing in women’s sports, sparking former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White to make a mockery of the WNBA by claiming they are women and want to join the league. Now, noted UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan is weighing in.
During the most recent episode of his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan did not hold back as he gave his true thoughts on the entire trans sports debate, calling Kanter’s decision to declare for the WNBA a “smart move” and calling the WNBA’s position on the issue “ridiculous.”
‘Great Move For Him’
Earlier this month, Kanter made waves when he announced that he was considering himself a transgender woman and would be entering the 2027 WNBA Draft, making a mockery of the league’s policy, which does not explicitly forbid trans athletes.
Rogan thinks it was a “smart move” of the former NBA player.
“Hilarious,” Rogan said of Kanter’s decision to declare for the WNBA Draft. “Smart move. Great move for him. Look, they painted themselves in the most loony position where they can’t define what a woman is.”
Rogan claimed that Kanter is illustrating how “some psychopath” can just declare themselves a woman and enter the WNBA Draft.
“This thing he’s doing where he’s pretending he’s a woman is very smart. In this day and age, we almost need someone that’s a public figure to do something like that to show everyone how ridiculous it is,” Rogan said. “That some psychopath can just pretend they are a woman and knock women over on the court.”
‘It’s just a giant dude’
There are currently no transgender women in the WNBA, but Julien Tetart, a transgender woman, has emerged as a star center of Monaco Basket Association in France’s Ligue Féminine 2, the second-tier professional league in France.
Rogan brought up Tetart as part of his argument against trans athletes in sports, calling it “preposterous.”
“It’s just a giant dude. A giant dude just dominating these chicks,” Rogan said. “That’s [freaking] preposterous. Literally preposterous.”
Tetart said that she “wouldn’t say no” if she were offered by the WNBA, but she also conceded that she is not good enough to play in the league.
