Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham gave a post-game interview after her crucial contributions in their 101-95 win over the Toronto Tempo.

The Fever have won their last five games as they aim to climb higher in the standings before the start of the 2026 WNBA Playoffs.

Cunningham has been making headlines off the court over the last month, but she had an important 13-point performance in the win, despite the Tempo fans showering her with boos.

Sophie Cunningham reacts to Fever win and her role on the squad

Cunningham was interviewed after the game on the court, where she shouted out the local fans before breaking down her contributions as a role player behind the Fever’s big three.

“I’m just here. Whatever the team needs of me, I’m going to do. That’s what it is all about. Owning that, that’s what it means to be the ultimate pro; it’s just coming in and trying to prove yourself. The Big 3 are going to do their thing every night. I’m gonna come, have some fun, and maybe inspire some girls to come beat me one day.”

Cunningham scored 13 points while going 3-for-3 from three-point range. These were necessary points, as the Fever were hampered down the stretch without leading scorer Kelsey Mitchell on the court.

Despite Mitchell’s late-game absence, she scored 29 points before leaving and was a +20 plus/minus. Caitlin Clark had 24 points and seven assists while the third member of the big three, Aliyah Boston, had 16 points, six rebounds, two steals, and three blocks.

Sophie Cunningham can’t hide her feelings after getting booed

Cunningham was audibly booed by Tempo fans when she was on the court, primarily due to her recent comments against trans women competing against biological women in the WNBA.

Cunningham addressed the boos in a very positive way, using that to highlight the strong fan culture on a team in their inaugural WNBA season.

“I want to shout out the Tempo crowd and the city… The crowd was absolutely amazing. I think that’s what sports is all about. You’re going to get boos, and you’re going to get cheers. Just the fact that they’re so passionate, so loud, and that they’re putting on for the city, I think it’s amazing.”

The vibes have to be good in Indiana, as they improve their record to 24-12 and move into the No. 3 seed provisionally, currently half a game ahead of the Las Vegas Aces.

The team’s winning streak has coincided with Cunningham and other franchise members like Clark and coach Stephanie White reiterating that the franchise will only focus on basketball going forward.

That’s going great so far, with six regular-season games left to play and a title to chase after in the playoffs.
