Like Pittsburgh Steelers fans around the world, the legendary Ben Roethlisberger loved what he saw out of one rookie during the preseason win over the Green Bay Packers. On a new episode of the Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger podcast, co-host Spencer Te'o highlighted second-round rookie Germie Bernard's standout performance during the preseason opener, which led Big Ben to also give the young wide receiver his flowers. "I mean, what a great catch and run on the sideline, showing physicality, getting north," Roethlisberger said about Bernard. "We’ll just continue to see what they bring to the table.”
Germie Bernard’s debut tonight 51 yards 👀 4 catches 97.7 XYZ Rating 💥pic.twitter.com/kHuwtoNbIE — PickensBurgh 🫡 (@PickensBurgh) August 14, 2026 Bernard, who was drafted by the Steelers with the 47th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, was a versatile weapon for the Alabama Crimson Tide, capable of lining up out wide, in the slot, and even out of the backfield. Finishing the preseason opener with four catches on five targets for 51 yards, Bernard showed off impressive athleticism with a few broken tackles and outstanding separation. Having Roethlisberger in your corner isn't a bad way to start your NFL career, as the sky appears to be the limit for Bernard heading into Year 1 in the Aaron Rodgers-led offense.
