Steelers Swap: Giants to Sign RB Najee Harris, Drop Former Pittsburgh WR originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here. The Giants signed Odell Beckham Jr. this offseason for a very fun reunion, and with their shaky wide receiver room, he might actually be a factor this season. But their search for veteran help didn't stop there. On Tuesday, the Giants reportedly signed running back Najee Harris to a one-year deal. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, to make room for Harris on the Giants' roster, they will release former Steelers Pro Bowler JuJu Smith-Schuster, who was Harris' teammate with the Steelers during the 2021 season. Giants to release JuJu Smith-Schuster after signing Najee Harris "In the corresponding move for signing RB Najee Harris, the Giants are planning to release veteran WR JuJu Smith-Schuster, per sources," Schefter reports. Smith-Schuster is 29 years old and was buried a bit on the Giants' depth chart. His odds of making the Giants' 53-man roster weren't looking great. The former Steelers Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion with the Chiefs hasn't been a very productive receiver for a few years. He caught 33 of 45 targets last season for 345 yards with one touchdown. That was the best year he's had dating back to 2023. Things have been that rough for Smith-Schuster lately. The Giants brought him in as a veteran option amid the questions surrounding the wide receiver room, but they have moved on now that they've signed Harris. The former Steelers and Chargers running back had at least 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first four NFL seasons before an Achilles injury last season ended the streak. Harris takes the roster spot of his former teammate, as the Giants are releasing Smith-Schuster to make room for the running back. More Steelers
