As we head into the 2026 fantasy football season, Diggs finds himself in an intriguing new environment that presents a massive opportunity for managers in all formats. Now catching passes for the Commanders, Diggs brings his veteran savvy and elite route-running ability to a young offense that desperately needs help behind Terry McLaurin in this receiving room. For those navigating their redraft leagues, understanding how Diggs fits into this specific offensive scheme is crucial for evaluating his true fantasy ceiling and floor.
Let’s start with the underlying metrics that heavily suggest Diggs remains a high-end target earner, regardless of his age or uniform. Last year, Diggs was targeted on 24.4% of his routes run, a highly efficient mark that ranked 22nd among qualified wide receivers. To put that target volume into perspective, his rate was higher than highly touted young receivers like Emeka Egbuka and Tetairoa McMillan, and even outpaced his current Washington teammate, Terry McLaurin.
More importantly, this wasn’t a sudden departure from the norm; it falls perfectly in line with his stellar career average target rate of 24.7%. In PPR formats, predictable volume is king, and Diggs continues to prove that he commands targets at an elite clip whenever he is on the field.

Playing time, naturally, is something that deserves our eye. The Patriots ran him out there on under 60% of their pass plays a season ago despite his success, something that certainly caps his ability to compile numbers in the ways that we need him to.
One of the most appealing aspects of Diggs is his recent evolution into a master of the short-to-intermediate passing game. He enters the season coming off consecutive campaigns with a sub-9-yard average depth of target (aDOT). While a lower aDOT might cap a player’s ceiling in standard scoring leagues, it can be a print-fest in PPR formats where reception count is as critical as anything.
Furthermore, this specific skill set is exactly what Jayden Daniels needs to take the next step. Since being drafted, Daniels has struggled with the quick, underneath passing game. Among 33 qualifying QBs, he ranks just 26th in passer rating when throwing short of the sticks with an 86.2 rating. This puts him behind a veteran in Geno Smith that we’ve written off and sits more than five full points below the league average of 91.5. Diggs’ ability to separate quickly off the line of scrimmage and provide a reliable, low-aDOT target should serve as a safety valve for Daniels, leading to a steady barrage of easy completions and padded PPR stats.
To be honest, we knew Diggs would sign somewhere, so his ranking didn’t move a ton for me. What his officially heading to Washington did do for me was solidify Daniels’ status as a Tier 2 signal caller with a range of outcomes that includes Tier 1 production.

When looking at the team context, the path to a massive, consolidated target share is wide open for Diggs. Last season, the Commanders’ passing offense was top-heavy, with only three players managing to eclipse the 250-receiving-yard mark for the entire year: Deebo Samuel, Terry McLaurin, and Zach Ertz. With Samuel now playing out West in San Francisco and Ertz currently sitting on the open market as a free agent, the target tree in Washington … is more of a single flower blowing in the wind than it is a tree.
Aside from McLaurin, there is very little established competition for targets. Diggs is perfectly positioned to step right in and absorb a massive chunk of the offensive volume vacated by departing veterans.
Finally, for fantasy managers who are already planning for a championship run, there is a highly favorable and weather-proof playoff schedule. During the critical fantasy postseason weeks, Washington plays at home against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 15, travels to face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 16, and heads down to Florida to battle Jacksonville in Week 17. The final two matchups are appealing in part because of the defense and in part because the pass game shouldn’t have to worry about any meaningful weather.
Diggs’ Dynasty Fantasy Football Value
As encouraged as I was by the juice I saw from Diggs with the Patriots on a per-route basis a season ago, there’s no reason for dynasty managers to play with fire.

If you’re in a win-now spot, Diggs is a nice add that may offer stretches of production this season, but given that it took him until August this year to find a suitor on a one-year deal, I think it’s pretty clear that the NFL believes that the end is near in terms of his career.
We can always readdress this situation with time, but I’m happy to view Diggs as a rental that could leverage that favourable late-season schedule to play a role in your chasing of a 2026 total and leaving it at that.
