Sunderland Are In The Running To Sign This Ligue 1 Wide Player: Should Le Bris Get Him On Board?

In a recent report, Foot Mercato mentioned that Sunderland are in the running to sign Olympique Marseille wide player Timothy Weah. It has been claimed that the Black Cats have shown interest in recruiting the United States talent, who remains focused on his Marseille career.

Weah’s Decent Season In Ligue 1

Weah managed to shine at times with his performances for the French club in Ligue 1 last season when he put in a handful of solid performances for them on the right flank. The 26-year-old registered a couple of goals and secured two assists in 29 league matches for Marseille in the previous campaign.

The United States sensation is currently among the most talented wide players in Ligue 1. Hence, the Black Cats would do well to get a deal done for him this off-season.

His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Sunderland to land him on a cut-price deal later this year.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Get Weah On Board?

Weah doesn’t mind putting in a hard-working performance for his team defensively when needed. He is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can engineer the odd chance for his teammates to find the back of the net.

The United States talent can shoot the ball with power from long range and did well to add a few goals and assists to his game last season. Weah is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also fill in as a right-back if told to do so. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the physical style and high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to sign him later this year.

We can expect Weah to enhance the quality of Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris’ squad. He is good enough to fight for a regular first-team place at the Stadium of Light next season.

At 26, Weah has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent option for the Wearside club to consider this summer. He will also help Sunderland compete across all fronts in the coming years. Thus, Le Bris should focus on getting him on board this month.
