AFC Sunderland are reported to have made enquiries about Olympique de Marseille’s Timothy Weah (26), according to information from Foot Mercato.
However, the US international (53 caps, seven goals), valued at €20m, is said to have shown little interest in the approach, as he does not wish to leave OM, though the club’s financial constraints could well get the better of his resolve.
This situation is, of course, well known to Weah’s suitors, who – in addition to the Black Cats – include several English clubs and a Serie A side, which could step up their pursuit before the transfer window closes.
Having arrived in Marseille last summer, the Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate settled in very quickly, establishing himself as a key figure both on and off the pitch. A starter in 36 of his 41 appearances across all competitions last season (three goals, four assists), the New York City native was one of the key players in the Marseille squad, highly regarded by his teammates and coaches.
