Two-time defending champions Taryn Brasher and Kristen Cruz made AVP history Sunday, capturing their third consecutive AVP Manhattan Beach Open title.
The 2024 U.S. Olympians and world No. 1 women’s professional beach volleyball team became the first duo since Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh Jennings to win three straight Manhattan Beach Opens. May-Treanor and Walsh Jennings won four consecutive titles from 2005 through 2008.
Brasher and Cruz were dominant throughout the tournament, sweeping all six of their opponents and winning all 12 sets, winning those sets by an average margin of 4.7 points.
The LSU standouts began Sunday’s championship run with a 21-18, 21-15 semifinal victory over Maddie Anderson and Alaina Chacon.
Brasher and Cruz then capped their historic weekend with a 21-18, 21-16 victory over Kelly Cheng and Megan Kraft in the championship match, securing their win in AVP history.
