The Seattle Seahawks made waves last week when they made a controversial free agent signing. On Thursday of last week, Seattle signed embattled former Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold. The move definitely raised a few eyebrows considering Arnold's current legal dilemma: he is facing eight felony counts, four for armed robbery and four for kidnapping.
Signing a player with this much baggage, alleged or otherwise, was always going to come with some risk no matter what. Now we have a better idea of what at least some of that risk entails. Seattle is still aiming to sign Arnold, but they won't get to see him in action any time soon. NFL insider Ian Rapoport is now reporting that Arnold, when he signs, will land on the Commissioner's Exempt list while the league conducts its own investigation of the situation.

The Commissioner's Exempt list is a special player status available to clubs only in unusual circumstances," according to NFL.com. It is something only Commissioner Roger Goodell has the authority to designate, and it is usually reserved for players facing serious criminal charges or special investigations. Players are removed from the active 53-man roster while the league reviews the situation.
At this point, we have no idea how long Terrion Arnold will remain on this list, as there is no trial date set. The next scheduled legal proceeding is a court hearing on October 5th in Tampa, Florida. So we will likely have to wait until then to have any idea of when... or if... Arnold will be allowed to play this year.
Seattle signing Arnold is likely, at best, a move for December and January reinforcements for a playoff push to defend their Super Bowl LX crown.
