Last month we broke the story that the Aggies may be wearing a camo jersey after it was briefly (and inadvertently) posted on Academy’s website. That was all but confirmed with the team’s social media teasers on Wednesday, and today, it’s officially official. A&M will wear a camo uniform when they host Arkansas on Saturday, Oct. 3. That game is also a part of the school’s 150th anniversary celebration.

The uniform features a khaki camo pattern base for the jersey. The numbers are maroon with a white outline, and the back nameplate is a solid khaki color with maroon letters. A military-inspired patch is on the right shoulder, with a Texas flag patch on the left shoulder. The helmet, which is also camo, features a maroon facemask and – for the very first time – the lone star logo with a beveled TAM. The look is rounded out by A&M’s standard maroon pants, along with special khaki gloves and cleats. Interestingly, this jersey has some noticeable differences compared to what was leaked online last month, with the number font (no stencil lines) and nameplate (no contrasting maroon rectangle).

The ‘Honor and Support’ uniforms feature a desert camouflage design inspired by the khaki uniforms of the Corps of Cadets, the dried grasslands and the rolling hills of Aggieland. A university identification stencil pays homage to Texas A&M’s military heritage, while the uniform’s patch incorporates elements inspired by the Aggie Ring, including the star and laurel leaf. Additionally, the patch’s circular design pays tribute to the wheels of the Spirit of ’02 field gun.
It’s worth noting that isn’t completely unique to A&M, as fellow Adidas school NC State also unveiled a camo uniform on Thursday, that they will wear the same weekend. Though the Wolfpack’s version is a black and gray camo rather than khaki. Washington also has a similar look but with purple camo (yikes). These uniforms are a part of Adidas’ “Honor & Support” series. That means don’t be surprised if you see other prominent Adidas schools unveil a similar version of these soon (I’m looking at you Texas Tech/Miami/Indiana). I was as stressed as anyone regarding what these would look like, but I actually think they came out nicely. Certainly in the pantheon of camo uniforms, we’ve seen many much worse examples. As a one-off uniform, its a cool look that pays homage to A&M’s very strong military heritage. Gig ‘em.
