Family and friends are mourning the deaths of a Texas high school football coach and his wife.
Jeremy and Brandy Jenkins died in a single-car accident southwest of Houston on Saturday, Aug. 15, according to the Houston Chronicle and Houston Public Media.
Jeremy, the athletic director and head football coach at East Bernard High School, and his wife, a junior high school teacher in the district, were killed when their Tesla Model Y failed to navigate a curve in the road on State Highway 60 at approximately 10:07 p.m., Texas Department of Public Safety officials said.
The car went off the roadway and overturned. Jeremy, 51, and Brandy, 46, were pronounced dead at the scene, the Wharton Post reported.

In a letter to the rural community, East Bernard superintendent Courtney Hudgins called on the community to “lean on one another” as they grieve the loss of the couple, who shared three sons.
“Jeremy and Brandy were much more than their titles or the roles they held within our schools,” East Bernard superintendent Courtney Hudgins wrote in a letter to the school district, according to the Chronicle. “They were colleagues, educators, mentors, friends and family.”
Hudgins continued, “East Bernard has always been a place where people show up for one another, and now is a time when that love and support are needed more than ever. In the days ahead, we will need to lean on one another with love, patience, compassion and grace.”
East Bernard, located in Wharton County, is about 50 miles southwest of Houston.
The crash came three days after the start of the school year. Last season, coach Jenkins led the Class 3A team to the state semifinal game.
“Right now, football doesn’t matter,” the East Bernard Athletic Booster Club wrote on Facebook. “Wins don’t matter. None of it does. What matters is surrounding these boys with the same kind of love and support their family has given to so many of ours.”
