In another landmark for the approaching college football season, the preseason AP Top 25 poll came out on Monday, slotting the Texas Longhorns at No. 5, one spot lower than the Coaches Poll almost two weeks ago.
Steve Sarkisian’s team was not among the five that received first-place votes, a group that includes No. 6 Indiana (eight) and No. 7 Miami (one).
The top three of the AP poll looks the same as the Coaches Poll — Ohio State at No. 1, Oregon at No. 2, and Georgia at No. 3, but instead of Texas at No. 4, Notre Dame secured that spot with the help of six first-place votes.
Similar to the Coaches Poll, Texas is set to face seven preseason Top 25 opponents in Ohio State, No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 9 Ole Miss, No. 10 Oklahoma, No. 11 LSU, No. 20 Tennessee, and No. 25 Missouri.
