The Dallas Cowboys are exploring veteran options for a secondary entering its first season under defensive coordinator Christian Parker. One familiar name has returned to the conversation, but Cowboys analyst Bobby Belt believes the bigger issue could be what the move says about Dallas’ current cornerback group.
His concern is not simply about adding another veteran. It is about whether the Cowboys would actually need that veteran to play a meaningful role.

The player at the center of the discussion is Adoree’ Jackson, who spent the 2025 season with the Philadelphia Eagles while working with Parker.
Dallas also hosted Jackson for a visit in May, but the meeting did not lead to a contract. Now, with the Cowboys again exploring cornerback options, Jackson has emerged as a name worth monitoring.
Belt believes there is a major difference between bringing Jackson in for depth and expecting him to contribute regularly. Speaking on 105.3 The FAN, the Cowboys analyst said, “Adoree’ Jackson would make me much more concerned about the corner room.”

DaRon Bland remains an important piece on the outside, while Cobie Durant and Shavon Revel Jr. are competing for significant roles. Belt questioned whether Jackson’s previous visit was simply about keeping an experienced option available. “That was the line you heard when he came in for a visit. Was it just to kind of get him on the waiver wire or get a visit out there?” he said.

This possibility would not bother Belt nearly as much as Jackson being brought in to take regular defensive repetitions. The veteran’s experience could provide useful insurance if injuries hit the secondary, but a larger role would create questions about the players already on Dallas’ roster.
“He’s somebody who, if he’s being brought in here to do anything else other than just be depth, like he would be brought in here to take snaps,” Belt continued. “That would be concerning to me about the corner room.”

Belt did not mince words when describing what regular snaps for Jackson could mean. “If you’re telling me, like, you need him to come in here and take snaps of any amount, then that’s concerning to me because it means there’s something really wrong,” he added.
Belt later described the ideal scenario for Jackson’s potential arrival. “If they brought him in here, I would assume he’s here as a depth piece in case somebody gets hurt,” he said.
Jackson does have one clear advantage: his familiarity with Parker’s defensive system. This could make him useful as emergency depth, especially if injuries force Dallas to change its plans.
But for Belt, the potential signing should be viewed through a simple question: Is Jackson being added as insurance, or because the Cowboys already have concerns about their cornerbacks?
