MARQUISE DAVIS #24

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 215lb

Position: RB

Class: Freshman

Hometown: Cleveland, OH

Summary: I understand completely that high school recruiting rankings is a nuanced element of college football, that some players get seen more than others, play on better teams, are from areas that are easier to access and therefore have more eyeballs, have more and/or better film and so on, but the majority of the time, the guys who have proven they are worthy of four or five star rankings typically pan out to be high level players during their college career. Marquise Davis is currently one of those guys. A consensus four star recruit who was Top 10 in the football rich state of Ohio, and a Top 20 running back nationally. He was a Gatorade Player of The Year in Ohio in 2023, and finished as a finalist for Ohio’s Mr. Football. The guy has stacks of awards and trophies to show you from high school, but now he wants to prove they mean some at the next level.

Committing to Missouri out of high school, Davis got some situational reps last year as a true freshman, but was sitting behind Ahmad Hardy, the SECs leading rusher last season. Wanting to learn under the best, and see if he has some more opportunities for growth, Davis joined Louisville the day AFTER Isaac Brown announced his return officially, hoping to give the Cards some more depth in a spot that has struggled with injuries. Davis is bigger than Isaac Brown, but similar in size to Keyjuan Brown. Davis has some burst, and showed off the ability to fight through contact and the arm tackles. With Fall Camp just starting last week I’d guess Davis is your third string back as we sit today, but if Isaac can’t go, he immediately moves into that backup spot for game one, a critical role for a team looking to lean on the ground game early in the year, I presume.

Below is a brief highlight clip from some of Davis’ runs last season at Missouri. I’m not sure if you can pull too much out of a one minute highlight clip other than the fact that Mizzou’s non-conference slate last year was absolute ‘cheeks’ and I dare anyone to question the acusation.
