Dylan Larkin still remains on the Red Wings roster, despite the franchise star’s trade request breaking now over two months ago. A lot has changed in the interim, with general manager Steve Yzerman being shown the door in July.

The team is seemingly prioritizing getting their next top executive in the chair over Larkin’s request out, rightfully so, and have apparently made it so that interim purported interim GM Shawn Horcoff has no trade authority.

It looks like Larkin won’t be able to fly the coop. With his 8.5 million dollar salary on the line for the next year, he’s better served attending training camp and raising his trade value by playing well. His options have found themselves incredibly limited with all but one of the teams on his shortlist out of now out of the race to negotiate for the center.

Meanwhile, PWHL Detroit and the rest of the Professional Women’s Hockey League are facing uncertainty as Mark Walter, sole owner of the league and all 12 of the franchises, faces federal investigations into his life insurance companies and their investments.

The PWHL only expanded to Detroit this last year, with the team’s inaugural draft occurring in June under the leadership of their GM and former Canadian Olympic Silver Medal Winner Manon Rheaume.

Walter has already sold his ownership stake of the L.A. Lakers and is reportedly in talks to sell his interest in Chelsea FC abroad. What this means for the PWHL, only in its third year of operation, is unclear, however. The league is owned and governed in its entirety by Walter, though this past June Walter did receiver more than 100 million dollars in outside investments for the league, including from Chris Ilitch and Ilitch Sports. Walter is also owner of the L.A. Dodgers.

Red Wings Extra:

It was this day in 1985 that Petr Klima defected from Czechslovakia of the USSR and came to America to play for the Detroit Red Wings. While most of the Czechs who play for the team these days have been goalies, Klima was a forward for the Red Wings who played for just under five seasons in Detroit. Klima had 129 goals in his time with Hockeytown before a trade 1990 brought him to the Edmonton Oilers. However, Klima did play his final season in Detroit, and scored his 313th and final goal while in a Red Wings uniform.
