Week 1 of high school football is finally here, as three games kick off the 2026 season Thursday night — Cedar at Wasatch, Stansbury at Skyline, and Skyridge at Mountain Ridge.

After Thursday night, there are 55 games on tap for the opening “Friday Night Lights” of the season followed by three more games on Saturday.

On all three nights, be sure to check out the Deseret News scoreboard page to keep tabs on what’s going on around the state with scoring updates on nearly every game.

Check out who’s the favorite in each of the games as well with Parry’s Power Guide, a weekly feature by Noland Parry that the Deseret News will publish all 15 weeks of the high school football season.

Before we completely shift forward with Week 1 game coverage, here’s a look back at the Deseret News region previews for every region in the state.

  • Region 1 — Davis unanimously voted as Region 1 favorite
  • Region 2 — Herriman predicted to finish atop Region 2
  • Region 3 — Despite Eric Kjar’s departure, Corner Canyon tabbed Region 3 favorite

  • Region 8 — Provo eyeing a fourth-straight region crown in new-look Region 8
  • Region 9 — Hurricane is unanimous favorite to take Region 9
  • Region 10 — Skyline tops preseason Region 10 football coaches poll
  • Region 11 — 4A champion Ridgeline is favorite to repeat as Region 11 champ
  • 3A North — Morgan picked to finish atop 3A North region
  • 3A South — 3A champion Cedar squeaks past competition in 3A South projections
  • 2A North — Summit Academy early favorite to finish atop 2A North region
  • 2A South — San Juan projected to finish atop 2A South once again
  • 1A North — Experienced North Summit gets nod as 1A North preseason favorite
