Oklahoma City Thunder fans took to social media on Wednesday afternoon, evening and into the late night to celebrate the career of Russell Westbrook. The all-time OKC legend shockingly announced his retirement by way of an incredibly well produced video clip narrated by Academy Award winning actor Michael B. Jordan. After 18 seasons of dominant, top tier basketball, the future first ballot Hall of Famer has decided to hang up the sneakers. According to reports, Westbrook had offers from the likes of the Washington Wizards and the Sacramento Kings. But as he has proven throughout his storied career, the one of a kind point guard likes to do things on his own terms. Retirement would be no different. Thunder fans weren't the only ones sharing their favorite Westbrook moments or waxing poetic on his career. NBA analysts, podcasters, bloggers and current and former players from all over the world weighed in on the league's all-time triple double leader and 2017 Most Valuable Player. One voice carries more weight than most, though. Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti penned an official press release to share his thoughts on the franchise's all time leader in points, assists, rebounds, steals and, of course, triple doubles. "Russell Westbrook is the ultimate competitor.  His internal belief and unbridled fearlessness helped establish the foundation of our organization from day one in 2008 and he elevated the confidence and inspired our community in every year thereafter.  Russell will be as successful in his life after basketball as he was during his career because his qualities and gifts transfer. His impact on our community is still felt today, and he is beloved for his devotion as much as his talent.  He built a Hall of Fame career not by making statements or simply by breaking records, he did it by showing us all the power of asking one simple question: Why Not?” Westbrook's retirement is bittersweet for OKC fans. The fanbase seems to be happy to see the Thunder icon go out on his own terms, still in great physical shape and still playing at a high level. But the lack of one last farewell tour season means Loud City will not get the chance to send the man once dubbed "The King of the Prairie" riding off celebrating into the sunset. But fear not, Thunder fans. You'll get that chance when that #0 jersey is lifted into the rafters.
