  • When Jedd Fisch got a question about defensive line depth and the return of Ta’ita’i Uiagalelei, he turned his attention instead to Ramzak Fruean. Christian Caple writes in his On Montlake practice recap that Fisch went out of his way to talk about how much explosiveness Fruean adds to the UW defensive front. His larger point had to do with the depth along the defensive line, and Uiagalelei certainly makes a big difference there. Fisch and Caple also both had positive things to say about WRs Christian Moss and Dezmen Roebuck.

  • At the Seattle Times, today’s article focuses on the battle to back up Demond Williams Jr. at QB. Stanford transfer Elijah Brown appears to have the inside track. Brown commented that he likes having the opportunity to focus on development as the backup to Williams rather than competing for a starting job as soon as he arrived in Seattle. Dash Beierly and Tristan Kini McMillan are also still in the running to earn reps with the #2 offense.

  • Dawgman continued their series of positional Mount Rushmores with the best cornerbacks in UW history. The Dawgs were rich in the secondary during the Christ Petersen tenure and the years immediately before and after. Byron Murphy, Sidney Jones, and Trent McDuffie were all popular names. While there were some CBs from longer ago on the lists, nobody mentioned Al Worley, who still holds the single-season interception record.

  • Washington Women’s Soccer won their season opener 1-0 over Portland with a goal early in the second half. The Huskies could have won by a lot more with a 16-2 advantage in shot attempts. Even so, World Cup enthusiasm helped bring a record crowd of over 1,700 to watch the Huskies, who will try to improve to 2-0 next week against San Diego State.

With 3 healthy starters in the league again, Oklahoma will look to break their own record this season in:

🔹 Passing Touchdowns: 80
🔹 Passing Yards: 11,254 https://t.co/Z1LAnCHAw1pic.twitter.com/phqeDkG72n

College sports’ biggest problem, BY FAR, is not uncontrolled roster spending or losses in court. It’s that the two ATMs underwriting the industry have zero incentive to work together and are, in fact, often trying to undermine each other. https://t.co/ECo4Cr4AAm
