1922: The Chicago Cubs defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 26-23 in the highest-scoring game in Major League Baseball history.

1928: Arsenal and Chelsea introduced numbered shirts in English Football League matches.

1938: New York Yankees star Joe DiMaggio hit his 100th career home run in his 395th game, reaching the milestone faster than any previous major league player.
