1884: Richard Sears defeated Howard Taylor to win his fourth consecutive U.S. National Championships men’s singles title.

1901: William Larned defeated Beals Wright for the first of his seven U.S. National Championships men’s singles titles.

1910: Comiskey Park hosted its first night baseball game, a semiprofessional exhibition in which the Logan Squares defeated Rogers Park 3-0 under portable lights.

1921: The American Professional Football Association granted a franchise to Green Bay in the name of Acme Packing Co., later becoming the Green Bay Packers after the league adopted the NFL name in 1922.
