Former Willamette High School standout Tony Cumberland continues to recover from undisclosed injuries he sustained in a car accident in late March. The Oregon football freshman defensive tackle isn’t practicing with the Ducks during fall camp. He also missed the spring practice season in April. "It's a work in progress with him," Oregon defensive line coach Tony Tuioti said Aug. 17. "I don't think it's going to be anything that we'll be able to see him soon. But he's made so much progress. I think the thing that's most important is that we have him with us and just having him in the room brings a smile to all our faces."

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound Cumberland was the No. 1 recruit in the state last season and a top-100 national recruit according to the 247sports.com composite rankings. As a senior with the Wolverines in 2025, Cumberland had 102 tackles, 14 sacks and 26 tackles for a loss of yards. Tuioti didn’t put a time table on Cumberland’s possible return, but said he continues to inspire his teammates despite not being able to join them on the field. "When our guys think about camp and camp is really, really hard, all they gotta do is just look at Tony Cumberland," Tuioti said. "And just know that, 'Hey man, I'm all right, and I'm gonna work really, really hard for him because I want to make him proud.' If he had the opportunity to practice, he'd definitely do it too. So, just love him. Just love the progress that he's made so far, and just really glad he's here with us."
