Bangladesh cricket has come a long way since the country first appeared on the international stage. Over the decades since their first appearance in the sport in 1986, the Tigers have created moments of history, climbing up the ranks from minnows to become a contender across formats, going toe-to-toe with the big names.

Across their cricketing journey, the Tigers have shocked some of the biggest teams of their time and, across eras, have shown time and again to be 'giant-killers', beating the big teams with spirited performances.

Here are top 3 most memorable moments in Bangladesh cricket

3. Win vs Pakistan, 1999 ODI World Cup

This was perhaps Bangladesh's first major upset. They arrived at the 1999 Cricket World Cup having qualified by winning the 1997 ICC Trophy in Malaysia. In their group match against a star-studded Pakistan side at the County Ground, Northampton, they posted 223/9 batting first, with runs from Shahriar Hossain, Akram Khan and Khaled Mahmud.

Pakistan, who had already secured their Super Sixes berth before the match, were reduced to 42/5 during the chase. Mahmud was the standout bowler, taking 3 wickets for 31 runs. His victims included Shahid Afridi, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Saleem Malik. Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 161, handing Bangladesh a 62-run victory. The win, along with a victory over Scotland in the same tournament, played a significant role in Bangladesh being granted ICC Full Member status in 2000.

2. Win vs India, 2007 ODI World Cup

Bangladesh, still considered minnows in the game, faced India in the 2007 Cricket World Cup group stage on March 17, 2007. India, considered one of the early tournament favourites, were bowled out for 191, with Mashrafe Mortaza finishing with figures of 4/38. Mohammad Rafique also bowled accurately with tight spin to keep India in check.

In the chase, Tamim Iqbal scored 51, Shakib Al Hasan contributed 53 and Mushfiqur Rahim finished unbeaten on 56 to guide Bangladesh to a five-wicket win in a thrilling upset. Bangladesh also beat South Africa and Bermuda in the same tournament, with the win over Bermuda sealing their passage to the Super Eights. They made their way out of a group which consisted of India and the finalist Sri Lanka, two of the biggest powerhouses of the game.

1. Win vs Australia in Darwin Test 2026

Bangladesh recorded a nine-wicket win over Australia in the Darwin Test at the Marrara Cricket Ground in 2026. It was Bangladesh's first Test victory on Australian soil. Bangladesh had not played a Test in Australia for 23 years before this series. Australia, who were the current World Test Championship table-toppers at the time, were bowled out for 198 in their first innings.

Bangladesh put on a total of 428 in response and restricted the Aussies to a total of 284 in their second innings. Bangladesh chased down the 57-run target with nine wickets in hand, completing one of the most significant results in their Test history. They were carried to this victory courtesy of individual performances from Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz with the ball and Tanzid Hasan and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto with the bat.
