Trey’Dez Green’s name has been mentioned a lot heading in to the 2026 college football season. Rightfully so. He’s an athletic freak that’s shown the ability to put his skillset to good use, but was stuck in an offense that was incapable of fully unlocking him.
Not anymore. He’s now lining up in an offense designed by Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weis Jr and the hype surrounding the 6’7 tight end is through the roof.
Green has already been named to:
- John Mackey Award watch list (Best TE)
- Walter Camp Preseason All-American 1st team
- SEC Media Preseason All-SEC 1st team
- Phil Steele Preseason All-SEC 1st team
- Athlon Sports Preseason All-American 1st team
- Joel Klatt’s 2026 Preseason All-American 1st team
With no disrespect meant for any of those honors, the biggest one came on Monday. Green was named to the Walter Camp Award watch list.

Behind the Heisman Trophy, the Walter Camp Award is one of the top honors in all of college football. It’s given annually to the nation’s most outstanding FBS football player.
There are 50 players named to the watch list. 41 of those are offensive players, made up of 22 quarterbacks, 11 running backs, 7 wide receivers, and 1 tight end. That’s right, Trey’Dez Green is the only tight end to make the list.
An LSU Tiger has been awarded the Walter Camp Award only twice. Joe Burrow in 2019 and Jayden Daniels in 2023, both of which also won the Heisman Trophy.
Only one tight end has ever won it. Ken MacAfee did so in 1977 for Notre Dame with 54 receptions for 797 yards and 6 touchdowns. While it would take a much better season from Green to become the second at his position to earn the honor, simply being named to the watch list is an incredible feat and a testament to his immense talent.
He hauled in 33 receptions for 433 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2025. That may not seem like a lot, but when you consider the offensive struggles that LSU had under Joe Sloan, along with an injured Garrett Nussmeier, followed by an overwhelmed Michael Van Buren Jr, they’re actually pretty good. Kiffin and Weis Jr will look to take things to the next level.
Joining Green on the watch list from the SEC include:
- Arch Manning (Texas)
- Cam Coleman (Texas)
- Rasheem Biles (Texas)
- Colin Simmons (Texas)
- Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss)
- Kewan Lacy (Ole Miss)
- Marcel Reed (Texas A&M)
- Mario Craver (Texas A&M)
- Gunner Stockton (Georgia)
- Ellis Robinson IV (Georgia)
- LaNorris Sellers (South Carolina)
- Dylan Stewart (South Carolina)
- DeSean Bishop (Tennessee)
- Ahmad Hardy (Missouri)
- Xavier Atkins (Auburn)
- John Mateer (Oklahoma)
Fernando Mendoza won the award in 2025.
