As Kentucky continue their preparation for the new college football season, the program did not have the best of starts. On Saturday, head coach Will Stein described the scrimmage as “sloppy”, which would do little to please the Big Blue Nation (BBN). Amid this, the weather also became a talking point.
Speaking to the media, Will Stein didn’t hold back, admitting that the session didn’t match up to standards even if the weather was against them.
“In terms of the scrimmage, I would just categorize it as sloppy. There’s a lot of reasons why,” Stein said.
“We are not playing today or tomorrow, so we got time, but time’s ticking. We’ve got to get the train moving. We have some work to do, but hey, that’s what you sign up for, and that’s why you practice.
“I’m not going to let weather or heat play a factor into why it might look a certain way, because ultimately, this is going to be the temperature for the first game,” Stein continued.
“We’re on turf. It’s going to be hot. It’s the first game of September and so we have to continue to prep our bodies and our minds more than anything.”
Defensive and Offensive Coordinators at Kentucky Were a Lot More Positive
While Will Stein seemed dissatisfied with the weather and scrimmage as a whole, Kentucky’s defensive coordinator Jay Bateman seemed to bring an air of positivity to the proceedings.
“It was hot. I love the heat,” Bateman said about the weather, which was hot and humid during scrimmage.
“A couple of penalties and a couple of things cost us big plays,” offensive coordinator Joe Sloan added.
“Not like some other days we have had. There were some positives, but definitely we can play better than what we did today.
“I thought individually some guys did good things and the second group was probably as effective as they have been through camp.”
Kentucky will hope they can get things right before the new season begins in approximately three weeks’ time.
