The last time the Dallas Cowboys won the Super Bowl, Troy Aikman was playing quarterback against Neil O'Donnell and the Steelers. Like, it's been that long. Aikman never would have expected to be the last Cowboys quarterback to lift the Lombardi Trophy. And as the Cowboys' Super Bowl drought officially reached 30 years in January, Aikman isn't exactly holding back on who deserves much of the blame. It falls on owner and general manager Jerry Jones. In an interview with legendary Dallas sports anchor Dale Hansen, Aikman said that the Cowboys' 30-year run without a Super Bowl title was "hard to fathom." Aikman — who will face some announcing restrictions amid his consulting role with the Dolphins — said when asked about Jones' role in the drought. Via Pro Football Talk:

“It all does start at the top. Good or bad, it starts at the top. I don’t think Jerry would shy away from that,” Aikman said. “You have to take responsibility when it doesn’t work out, and it hasn’t worked out. I’ve heard Jerry say the reason he hasn’t hired a general manager is there are no guarantees and no one can guarantee him that making a change at GM and replacing himself would guarantee that they’d be any better. But if that’s your philosophy, then you’d never fire the head coach either. You’d never make any changes because there are no guarantees whatsoever. They’ve been going down this road so long and yet it hasn’t translated to success in January. There has to be a reason for that.”

Jones would never tolerate 30 years of failure from a head coach. Aikman was right to point out how Jones doesn't hold himself to the same standard. This article originally appeared on For The Win: Troy Aikman admitted that Jerry Jones deserves blame for Cowboys' Super Bowl drought
