Troy Aikman is going to discover it is not fun serving two masters. The NFL Hall of Fame quarterback remains part of the ESPN "Monday Night Football" broadcast team as an analyst. But the former Dallas Cowboys QB also is now a consultant for the Miami Dolphins. Aikman has been given permission by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to work for both. But the issue popped up again this week when Aikman, in his role as ESPN analyst, was asked about the 2026 Dolphins - and did not hold back. Watch Dolphins-Commanders preseason game on Fubo Aikman, who assisted owner Stephen Ross during the search for a new general manager and head coach, did not exactly set off a bombshell during a conference call. All he basically said was that the Dolphins are not a part of the MNF lineup this season because they are not going to be very good.
"The Dolphins are not expected to be very good this year," Aikman said on a conference call. "They're getting out of cap hell, so there's no Monday night game with the Dolphins this year." Aikman also addressed the elephant in the room.
"I have friendships every week that I call a game, whether with a head coach or offensive coordinator or player or whoever it is," he said. "I would argue that every broadcaster has a conflict when they're calling a game. "I've talked to the commissioner and he's fine with what I'm doing and my role."
