It's safe to say that the Tulane Green Wave City Edition uniforms have been incredibly well received by the public. The Green Wave officially sold out of King of Mardi Gras jerseys and helmets over the weekend -- just a few days after the new uniforms were publicly announced. The team will sport the iconic combo on September 12th as it takes on the South Alabama Jaguars in head coach Will Hall's first home game at the helm.
🚨 The 2026 City Edition helmets and jerseys are officially SOLD OUT! 🚨 Come see them in person on September 12th! 🎟️: https://t.co/5nWOHEQHtR#UptownFootballpic.twitter.com/U88XZhEVya — Tulane Football (@GreenWaveFB) August 15, 2026 These game-worn uniforms came at a premium price, with jerseys costing $504 and helmets going for just north of $2,500. All money raised went towards the Green Wave Talent Fund, which provides NIL opportunities for the university's athletes. Let's do a little bit of math here. There are 93 players who are currently expected to suit up for the Olive Green and Sky Blue this year, with each one having a jersey and helmet available. Jersey sales for all 93 players would come to $46,872. Meanwhile, helmets brought in a little more than $232,500 in sales... that puts nearly $280,000 into the Green Wave Talent Fund, all by selling game-worn, unique uniforms. It's a significant boost over the course of just a few days. Now, we're going to look a bit beyond the "numbers" of it all. While NIL funding is a wonderful advantage, it's not everything.
These City Edition uniforms are proving a point: that Tulane is truly New Orleans' team. The university has always heavily embraced its home, and plenty of other athletic programs on campus have found ways to incorporate Mardi Gras into uniform designs. However, between last year's incredible City Edition uniforms that embodied the city's spirit and the new threads, it seems like the football program has taken a unique pride in being the Big Easy's college team. With recent success bringing plenty of attention and love to the program, it's a no-brainer that the team is going to reciprocate the love that it has been shown by honoring some of the most important aspects of its home. It also creates an opportunity for some unique collaborations or "deals" in the future. Corporations are beginning to sponsor teams across the nation, receiving jersey patches and field logos in return. Who's to say that Audubon Nature Institute, Cafe Du Monde or Willie's Chicken Shack won't be compelled to form deals with the program? The opportunities remain endless for the Olive Green and Sky Blue, and as momentum and support continues to grow, the program has a great chance to remain nationally relevant for years to come.
