SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa (KCAU) - Sergeant Bluff-Luton football put together a deep run into November last season, ending the year with double-digit wins and a spot in the UNI-Dome, all while moving up into Class 4A. SB-L is coming off its second consecutive Dome trip. Head coach Justin Smith and his group have found success through the run game. Running back Beckett Verros is back after leading the team with 144 carries for 1,450 yards and 16 touchdowns. The Warriors will have a new face under center following the graduation of Isaiah Jervik, potentially leaning on Justin Ehlers to take on that role. The personnel may be different, but the standard stays the same for the Warriors. "It's a top to bottom that for me, it's a team sport. Everyone needs to give their hundred percent effort. We talk about that a lot how it's standards over feelings, and that's our mindset this year," SB-L offensive lineman Alex Brodersen said. "Everybody gets better every day and that's why we set goals when talking about closing the capability gap, , going from where you are now to what your potential is. If everybody does a little bit of that each day by the other, your teams can be a lot better," Smith highlighted. "But that daily improvement... last year in week one, we did not play a good football game and then week two is reset and we got a lot better and we continue to get better throughout the year and good things happen." SB-L kicks off the year on August 28th against Bishop Heelan. Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
