SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Water Valley’s roster has some new faces in 2026.
The Water Valley Wildcats had a strong 2025 campaign, finishing 13-1 overall en route to a Class 1A State Semifinal appearance. One year later, the team returns just one starter on offense and defense. That is senior running back Branson Lacy, who was also named the District 8-1A Division I Preseason Defensive MVP. Despite losing a handful of seniors, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine projects head coach Trey Sisco and Water Valley to win the district title.
“When [your team] makes a little run in the playoffs, those kids get a little extra practice,” Sisco said. “That helps the previous year, [as well as] having a good summer. Being in the same system for three years really helps those younger guys, but they’re going to have to step it up this year.”
Lacy, the lone returning starter, is ready to embrace his new role.
“It’s challenging,” Lacy said. “I’m not used to having to be the leader of the team, but I’ve been preparing [myself] and my teammates for this year.”
Lacy’s senior teammate, Cutter Lange, is also ready for new challenges.
“It’s going to be completely new this year because we only have three seniors and three juniors,” Lange said. “[The team is] just learning everything new and how to work with each other.”
Water Valley kicks off its 2026 regular season at Garden City on Friday, Aug 28.
