Ty Robinson now has an opportunity to do exactly that. The second-year defensive tackle has quietly found some footing. He has reportedly made some plays in practice lately. He has found ways to penetrate. He has developed more of a pass-rushing arsenal and has shown his willingness to compete through the whistle.
That momentum carried into Philadelphia's preseason opener against the Baltimore Ravens. Robinson recorded a sack despite the Eagles' 24-7 loss, beating the left guard at the snap and immediately disrupting the pocket. It was another example of the quickness and strength that have recently surfaced, suggesting he could be an intriguing piece of Philadelphia's defensive line depth.

The encouraging part is that the performance didn't come out of nowhere. That means it can potentially be duplicated.
Robinson's recent flashes throughout camp are what coaches and teammates want to see. He's part of a deep unit, but it's always nice to know that there's another defensive weapon. If he can consistently generate penetration against both the run and pass, that will allow him to stand out even when playing behind more established defensive tackles.
That distinction matters. The Eagles aren't asking Robinson to replace Jalen Carter or Jordan Davis. Those players remain central figures in the defensive front. Robinson's opportunity is different. He is trying to prove that he can be trusted with meaningful snaps when the starters need a breather. He's trying to prove that, if the Eagles were to lose Moro Ojomo at season's end, he's the 'next man up'. Plus, we all know how injuries can inevitably change the rotation.
The preseason opener provided a useful first test because Robinson wasn't simply beating teammates in practice. He was doing it against another NFL offensive line. There was also a setback that he'll learn from. Robinson was later flagged for roughing the passer, a reminder that the next step in his development isn't simply creating disruption.
He has to pair that aggression with the discipline required to stay on the field. That's a manageable problem for a young defensive tackle who appears to be trending in the right direction. Philadelphia has spent years building depth along the defensive line, and Robinson is making a compelling argument that he can become another contributor in that rotation.
The opportunity is there now. His task is to turn a strong summer and encouraging preseason debut into something sustainable. The Eagles already know Ty Robinson can make a splash. Now they get to find out whether he can keep making them.
