With Alonza Barnett III at the helm of UCF's offense, the skill position groups have no shortage of talent either. With returning players like Dylan Wade, Duane "Speedy" Thomas, and Waden Charles on the outside, UCF has formed a diverse wide receiving corps, with speed and vertical threats littered throughout the group. One new addition to the room is freshman wideout Tyren Hornes, who was tagged as one of the most college-ready freshmen in the country earlier this week. On Monday, ESPN's Billy Tucker released his list of the 51 freshmen who are "poised to make an impact" heading into their opening campaigns, with Hornes being named one of the ten Big 12 representatives. "The No. 74 player in 2026, Hornes has perhaps the highest upside of any receiver in the class," Tucker wrote. "He's an excellent route runner with competitive ball skills and a savvy approach to the game, which should allow Scott Frost to move him around the offense. Incoming transfer QB Alonza Barnett is the reigning Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year and isn't afraid to push the ball vertically. If he forms an early connection with Hornes, watch out." Hornes has begun to turn heads at UCF's fall camp, converting on multiple high-level targets from Barnett, who had good things to say about the freshman wideout. "Really good ball skills," Barnett told media on Monday. "You know, he'll go up, catch the ball. He can also run by you." As a junior, Hornes gained major traction on the recruiting trail following his MVP performance at the All-American camp, picking up offers from big-name programs like Georgia, Florida State and Auburn shortly after. Hornes rode this momentum through his senior year, catching 42 passes for 646 yards and nine touchdowns in ten games. One year after his MVP, Hornes committed to UCF at the same event, where he once again posted a strong performance. Prior to the event, Hornes was ranked the No. 23 wide receiver in the class, but after a touchdown and multiple impressive receptions, he left as the No. 12 player, according to ESPN. This boost in rankings makes Hornes the highest-ranked recruit in UCF history. According to TheUCReport, "No one climbed higher in the final ESPN 300 update than Tyren Hornes. The UCF commit balled out at the UA All-America game and now ranks as the No. 12 WR in the class." So far, he has looked the part as one of the Knights' most-talented players on the roster, but it is an uphill battle for playtime as UCF has depth in the receiving room. Nevertheless, head coach Scott Frost and Barnett have both had strong praises for Hornes, who is living up this high rank early into his collegiate career.
