Uli Hoeneß may no longer hold an official role at Bayern Munich, but his influence at the club remains impossible to ignore.

The honorary president has explained that, despite his continued involvement, he does not simply interfere in club matters whenever he feels like it. In fact, Hoeneß says that in the vast majority of cases, people come to him for advice.

“You know, in 98% of cases, I don’t intervene on my own initiative, but I’m asked to. It’s not like I just pick up the phone and call Manuel Neuer and say, ‘Manuel, we need to sit down together.’ – But Manuel knows that if he needs advice, he can contact me anytime. Just like, for example, Ms. Krüger, our former team manager. She called me just a week ago, while I was lying on the massage table, and asked, ‘Mr. Hoeneß, could I have a private conversation with you?’ At first, I didn’t even know what it was about. I then drove to Schäferstraße, where she described her situation at HSV to me, and I gave her my advice,” Hoeneß told DAZN (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

The story perfectly illustrates the unique position Hoeneß occupies in German football.

He does not need an official title to remain an important voice. His experience, connections and decades of involvement in the game mean that players, staff and executives still turn to him when they need guidance.

At Bayern Munich, Hoeneß may not be involved in every decision, but his presence continues to matter. Manuel Neuer knows that he can contact him whenever he needs advice, while former Bayern team manager Kathleen Krüger also recently sought his counsel regarding her situation at Hamburger SV.

Hoeneß remains one of the most influential figures in Bayern Munich history. And even without an official role, his advice and experience continue to carry enormous weight both inside and outside the club.
