The Houston Texans have plenty of talented players competing for roster spots this summer, but one undrafted rookie is doing everything he can to make sure he is not overlooked. Cornerback Collin Wright entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford, signing with Houston after the 2026 NFL Draft. While players selected in the draft naturally receive more attention and often have a clearer path to making the roster, Wright has quickly started to change the conversation around his chances. The rookie has consistently made plays throughout training camp, and his opportunities have gone beyond simply getting reps with the backups. According to ESPN's DJ Bien-Aime, Wright has seen time with the first-team defense while putting together a series of noticeable performances, "Cornerback Collin Wright is an undrafted rookie but has made noticeable plays throughout camp. His biggest highlight came when he intercepted quarterback C.J. Stroud during team drills a couple of days before Houston's first preseason game. Wright has had reps with the first team, so he's gearing up to make the team through unlikely odds." That interception of Stroud is particularly notable. Stroud has spent the offseason battling against one of the NFL's deepest defenses, so making a play against the Texans' starting quarterback is the type of moment that can get a young player's name on the coaching staff's radar. Wright's opportunities with the first team are perhaps even more important than the interception itself. Getting those reps suggests the coaching staff wants to see how he handles increased responsibility, and he has continued to take advantage of those opportunities. Houston also has a need for depth at cornerback behind established players such as Derek Stingley Jr. and Kamari Lassiter. That creates an opening for a young player to separate himself during the preseason and earn a role on special teams while developing defensively. The Texans have already shown a willingness to give rookies meaningful opportunities, and Wright appears to be taking the same path. His preseason performance will ultimately play a major role in determining whether he can turn his strong camp into a roster spot, but the fact that he is already getting first-team reps puts him in an intriguing position. Undrafted rookies face long odds every year, but Wright is doing what he can to make those odds irrelevant. If he continues making plays and showing the consistency that has caught Houston's attention, it is becoming increasingly difficult to overlook him when the Texans finalize their 53-man roster.
