In a recent report, Sunderland Echo offered an update on Sunderland and their pursuit of Toulouse full-back Dayann Methalie. It is believed that the Black Cats are close to agreeing on a fee in the region of €30m with the French club to sign the talented defender this summer.
Methalie’s Impressive Form In Ligue 1
Methalie enjoyed a decent run of form at the French club in the previous campaign when he put in a string of impressive displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 20-year-old registered two goals and earned two assists in 30 matches for Toulouse last season in all competitions.
The French talent is currently among the most gifted young full-backs in Ligue 1. Therefore, the Black Cats would do well to get a deal done for him in this transfer window.
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2030, which could make it tough for Sunderland to land him on the cheap this off-season.

Should Sunderland Boss Regis Le Bris Snap Methalie Up This Summer?
Methalie is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is a good passer as well.
The French sensation can even chip in by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team. Methalie is primarily a left-back but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so. However, only time will tell whether he can adapt to the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to get a deal done for him this summer.
We can expect Methalie to add more quality and depth to Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ backline. He has what it takes to fight for a regular starting spot at the Wearside club in the coming seasons.
At 20, Methalie has the potential to be a future star in English football as long as he continues to improve with each year. All in all, Le Bris would be wise to go all out to snap him up this month.
