With one loss already on their resume, the Oregon Ducks headed into their Nov. 22 game against the USC Trojans with much on the line. The arch-rival Trojans came into the matchup with an 8-2 record and an outside shot of making the College Football Playoff, thus making it a game of high magnitude for both sides. Adding to the nervousness of the game was the status of Oregon left tackle Isaiah World, who was questionable going in with an ankle injury that he'd suffered the week prior. And while he suited up and played, he eventually was shut down for backup Fox Crader. It was the sophomore's first real, high pressure action in his college career — but it didn't look like it in the slightest. For the game, the Ducks allowed zero sacks and just one quarterback hurry, as Dante Moore threw for 257 yards and two touchdowns while the ground game churned up 179 yards and three scores. While it was ultimately a middling output for Oregon compared to the rest of the season, it was a gritty outcome and one that proved Crader was ready for the moment. Now tasked with taking over the left tackle spot as the full-time starter in 2026, offensive line coach A'lique Terry turned to that USC game as an important moment in Crader's development. “I think that USC game gave Fox that confidence," Terry said during fall camp. "Fox was one of the premier athletes in the country when he was coming to high school — one of the best tackles in the country. For him to get that experience in the game, I think he truly felt like, ‘Okay, I'm ready for this.’ Because once again, you do it in practice — and he does it versus Teitum and Matayo, he does it versus Nas, he does it for versus these guys — until you do it under the lights in Autzen, in front of 70,000, do it at a different stadium in front of that that magnitude, you don't know if you're truly ready. There's no teacher of the game like the game." One of the major upsides of joining a program like Oregon is the high levels of play during practice, as blue-chippers line the roster at all positions — especially along the defensive line, which features NFL-caliber talent in Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti, each of whom have garnered early-round buzz ahead of the 2027 NFL Draft. Crader showed the coaching staff that he can compete with both of the Ducks' star edge rushers in practice, and it carried over to the game against USC seamlessly. "Once he got that experience, he did it at a high level," Terry said. "To do it versus those guys down south, and to do it in that magnitude of that game, be calm and put on a good performance. I think that was really necessary for him going into this off season, having the off season he's had."
