The Vikings quarterback battle did not even make it to the first preseason game. After weeks of build-up, OTAs, and training camp practices, we have now arrived at a decision on the starter by head coach Kevin O'Connell. On Tuesday, the Minnesota Vikings named Kyler Murray as their starting quarterback for the start of the regular season. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news of the decision. After the decision was made, Sirius XM NFL was at the Vikings facility to do some live coverage. While there, they discussed the decision to start Murray with their new general manager, Nolan Teasley. Teasley said on Sirius XM, "Really excited about what Kyler (Murray) can do in this system with this level of coaching. KO (Kevin O'Connell), Josh McCown, Frank Smith, his own staff here, Wes Phillips, right then and there, you're really excited about the direction that you can go, and the intricacies of the system, being a wide zone scheme, that is gonna implement some keepers and use his athleticism, get them outside of the pocket. . .just really excited about the direction that we're headed."
