LEXINGTON — On Thursday, July 30, the Kentucky football program posted a video on its official X account. The video began with the caption: "We challenged the team to draw this logo." What appeared was the logo Kentucky athletics began sporting in the 1980s and into the early 2000s, featuring a wildcat, its fangs bared and claws out, standing behind interlocked "UK" letters. Then, magic happened. Coleton Price, a fifth-year senior transfer and projected starting center this fall, began drawing the logo on the glass with a black marker. In the sped-up video, the picture grew clearer and clearer. By the time Price finished, he had drawn a nigh-perfect rendition.

Ten out of ten from @C_Price72 🎨🤌 pic.twitter.com/X9xUdFwJgY — Kentucky Football (@UKFootball) July 30, 2026 Asked about his masterpiece and viral status — the post containing the video was seen more than 670,000 times on X, as of Wednesday, Aug. 12 — days later at Kentucky's media day, Price couldn't have been more modest. The 6-foot-5, 308-pounder doesn't fancy himself an artist. "Kind of surprised myself out there whenever I was drawing that," he said. "But whenever I was younger, I used to draw a little bit. Nothing too crazy. But yeah, whenever I drew (the logo), I wasn't trying to impress anyone. It was more of like, 'Hey, I'm just going to do this thing.' "But it turned out to be pretty good." Press Price a smidgen more about his freehand talent, and he immediately pivoted to another point. "Try not to do too much about art. Try to do a little bit more about football," he said. "You know what I mean?" He'd prefer to talk about the outdoors. Hunting. Fishing. The cattle industry. (He's from Texas, after all.) But art? "No, I wouldn't say art is a really big thing that I lean on," he said. The Wildcats will lean on him plenty this fall, though. Price transferred to Kentucky after spending four years at Baylor, where he redshirted as a freshman and then appeared in 32 games, including 30 starts. Last season, he permitted just one sack in 526 pass-block snaps. Now in Year 1 in Lexington, he earned a place on the preseason watch list for the Rimington Trophy, which is handed out annually to the top center in the nation. It certainly wouldn't surprise coach Will Stein to see Price win it. "Coleton Price is as good of a center as I've been around," said Stein, who is entering his first season as Kentucky's head coach. "We obviously haven't gone through a game yet, but just how he prepares — his mentality, his physicality, his athleticism, consistency — he's a pro in every sense of the word. So I'm very thankful that we have Coleton because he really anchors that unit." Aside from his counterparts on the offensive line, there's no teammate Price will chat with more than Kenny Minchey, the Wildcats' new starting quarterback. Minchey, who transferred from Notre Dame, said a few aspects of Price's character immediately stood out. He knew Price was someone who "had played a lot of football without being told that." In short, a veteran. "Knows what it should look like — on the field, in the weight room, leadership style," Minchey said. "I feel like he had it all. Just a really down-to-earth guy." Chemistry between a quarterback and center is essential. Without it, an offense will never function at a high level. Good thing Minchey and Price vow they already have developed a tight bond. "If something is off — anything's off — we're coming to each other," Minchey said. "Every single play, we're touching the football, so we've definitely got to be on our p's and q's. ... Just having that relationship allows for open communication, which you need (on) a football team." Price said Minchey is "one of the smartest guys" he's ever met. "He's making plays. He's checking schemes depending on what we got, so he's definitely able to lead out there and bring guys with him," Price said. "And that's one of the biggest things I love about him, is that he's able to get a group of guys (to play) together." When UK's offense is humming at full song, Price said it's "amazing" to watch. "Nothing you could really say wrong about it. Stein's going to put us in the best situation we can be in," Price said. "We have tempo. We have a lot of things in our toolbox, and we can throw 'em out when we need to. It's a pretty, pretty good offense to be a part of." Perhaps, with Price's help, good enough to be a work of art. .oembed-frame {width:100%;height:100%;margin:0;border:0;}
