The high school sports fall season has officially arrived. The Courier & Press has begun preparations for our 2026 soccer season coverage. First up were our annual players-to-watch lists and a look at the potential top teams. But who gets the nod for preseason Player of the Year? This is where you come in. The Courier & Press high school girls soccer preseason Player of the Year poll will remain open through Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 12 p.m. CDT. A reminder, this has zero bearing on who will be selected as the Metro Player of the Year after the season. This is pure bragging rights. Below is the poll and brief information on the nominees: More: 70 high school girls soccer players to watch in Southwestern Indiana this season Ava Aaseurd, Pike Central: The senior led the Chargers with 22 goals and 15 assists. Maria Bombelli, Jasper: The sophomore forward led the Wildcats in scoring last season. Arden Brames, Jasper: The senior forward had five goals in six matches after missing time with an injury. Greyley Butcha, Northeast Dubois: The sophomore led the Jeeps with 17 goals and 28 assists. Kayla Delph, North: The junior All-State forward had a team-high 20 goals plus seven assists for the Huskies. Hannah Dyer, Mater Dei: The sophomore forward had 16 goals and three assists last season at Central. Hope Happe, Memorial: The senior All-State midfielder had five goals and five assists for the Tigers. Cora Lasher, Heritage Hills: The senior All-State midfielder led the Patriots with 22 goals and added 12 assists. Izzy Marx, Mater Dei: The All-SIAC defender is expected to lead an experienced defense for the Wildcats. Paige Memmer, Forest Park: The senior striker led the sectional champions with 19 goals and added four assists. Leah Owens, Washington: The junior forward scored a team-high 27 goals and added six assists. Hallie Peter, Evansville Christian: The senior had 18 goals and six assists for the sectional champions. Avery Slade, Memorial: The junior All-State midfielder had a team-high 16 goals and six assists. Alli Stearns, Vincennes Rivet: The senior had 11 goals and recorded 93 saves with six shutouts in net for the Patriots. Kalia Wedeking, Central: The senior midfielder is the top returner for the Bears with seven goals and nine assists.
